Even as the dust settles around the suicide of Ayesha, who left behind a video message before jumping into the Sabarmati River, another suicide has come to the fore that is too of similar nature.
A contractor living in Juhapura left behind a video message before jumping into the Fatehwadi canal. Police rushed to the spot and fished out the body from the canal which has now been sent for postmortem. The victim has been identified as Shafiq Bhati, 52, a contractor.
Police have registered a case against two loan sharks and six others in the construction business.
What suicide video message said
The video left behind by Bhati was addressed to cops and said that he had not been paid fully for the construction work that he carried out and requested the police to ensure that his family got the amount due to him. He said he had got money from loan sharks to finish the work and they were harassing him to return the money.
Earlier in Surat, a rickshaw driver who had seen the viral video of Ayesha before she killed herself acted in the nick of time and saved a woman from committing suicide. The married woman was about to jump from a bridge into a river in Surat when the rickshaw driver pulled her to safety.
The woman was troubled with the constant fights with her husband. The rickshaw driver later said that he had recently seen the video of Ayesha before she jumped into the river. He said he suspected that the woman was about to jump and so rushed after her and prevented her from jumping.
