Yet another death due to police assault has surfaced in Tamil Nadu. This comes days after a father-son duo in Tuticorin died after being allegedly tortured by police and the incident led to large scale protests in the state.
The latest incident happened in Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. The victim was identified as Kumaresan and he died at the Tirunelveli Government hospital after being admitted with assault injuries. Two policemen have been booked in this connection. Relatives of the auto driver blocked the road demanding justice and police are in talks with them.
Reports said the deceased had been called to the police station in connection with a dispute case and later he was thrashed. The 25-year-old victim’s father has filed a complaint with the police chief. DMK President MK Stalin slammed the incident and asked if Chief Minister K Palaniswami had handed over the state to the police. “What is the chief minister doing,” he said on Twitter.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, a construction worker from Ettayapuram in Tuticorin district committed suicide after being assaulted by police.
