New Delhi: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Yasin Malik was sentenced to life in jail by the NIA court in a terror funding case on Wednesday.
The sentencing includes two life imprisonments, 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in 10 offences and Rs 10 lakh penalty. All the sentences will run concurrently, the special NIA judge has clarified.
Ahead of the pronouncement of the verdict, security was beefed up inside and outside the court by the Delhi police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The NIA had demanded death penalty for Yasin Malik.
He has claimed that he has been doing non-violent politics in Kashmir since 1994 when he gave up arms.
The charges against him include terrorism, raising funds for terrorist act, conspiracy to commit terrorist act, being member of terorirst group, criminal conspiracy and sedition.
He was booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
