Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday expressed her solidarity with the Indian wrestlers protesting against Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and met them at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Gandhi reached Jantar Mantar in the morning and interacted with top women wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat.
Targeting PM Modi, Priyanka Gandhi said, “I don’t expect anything from the Prime Minister. …if he (PM Modi) had been concerned about these wrestlers, then he would have at least spoken to them. He had called them for tea when they won medals. So talk to them, they are our girls,” she continued.
Priyanka Gandhi, lashing out at the government, asked, “No one is aware of what is there in the FIR which has been lodged. Why they are not showing it? When these wrestlers win medals we all tweet and feel proud but today they are sitting on road and not getting justice. All these women wrestlers struggle a lot to come to this stage. And I am not able to understand why the govt is saving him (Brij Singh)?”
Meanwhile, following the stern remarks by the Supreme Court, the Delhi Police came into action and filed two FIRs against the President of the Wrestling Federation Brijbhushan Sharan Singh on the charge of sexual harassment.
