  • Bill passed without discussion within minutes of being introduced by agri minister Narendra Singh Tomar; House adjourned for second time on Day 1 of Winter Session of Parliament

New Delhi: The Winter Session of the Parliament commenced on Monday. The Lok Sabha witnessed a stormy start to the session when Opposition MPs began sloganeering and demanded discussion on the Bill to repeal farm laws.

The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned till noon.

When the Lok Sabha reconvened, the sloganeering resumed. Amid this, agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar tabled the Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2021. Despite the ruckus by the Opposition, it was passed by the House minutes later by voice vote without any discussion.

According to sources, the Bill will be presented in the Rajya Sabha, too, on Monday itself.

Meanwhile, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjay Chowdhury demanded a discussion of the Bill in the House.

Speaker Om Birla then once again adjourned the House till 2 pm

In his customary address on Monday ahead of the session, PM Narendra Modi had said that Centre was ready to answer all questions, insisting that all parties maintain the decorum of the House.

The 25-day Winter Session will conclude on December 23 and will have 19 working days.
