The 76th Assembly of the World Health Organization has started in Geneva, Switzerland. It focuses on saving lives, health wellness for all. This is the year of 75th anniversary of WHO. Many important issues will be discussed during the assembly which lasts for 10 days. In the conference, the head of the organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the preparation for the next epidemic should be started immediately.

The World Health Organization has urged countries to improve medical services and raise funds as well as to prepare for the next pandemic. The WHO had recently declared that the Covid-19 pandemic is no longer a health emergency. Ghebreyesus said, “If we don’t make the changes we need to make, who else will do?” If there is no change now, when will it happen? He said, this is the right time to communicate in advance and increase preparedness to prevent the next epidemic.
Addressing the conference, he added that the Covid-19 epidemic is not over yet. “The threat of another variant emerging that causes new surges of disease and death remains. And the threat of another pathogen emerging with even deadlier potential remains. If this epidemic knocks, there is a possibility of death of 2 crore people. So he said, giving the warning, that the world has to be prepared for it.
Addressing the inaugural session, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described the organization’s 75 years of work as a great achievement. Tedros said, the organization is facing complex challenges because the expectations of the world from the World Health Organization(WHO) has increased significantly.
