“What after May 17?” Sonia Gandhi has asked the Centre following a meeting held with chief ministers of state where Congress is in power. The Congress president wanted to know how the Centre planned to move ahead after the third phase of lockdown came to an end on May 17. She also questioned the government over the criteria on which it was basing its decision on how long the lockdown should continue. She said it was time the country knew the what and how of the programme in place after the end of lockdown.
The meeting was also attended by former prime minister Manmohan Singh and former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. Singh also said that the country needed to know what will happen after lockdown 3.0 and the strategy that the centre had planned.
Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh said bureaucrats in Delhi were deciding on classification of Covid19 zones without knowing the ground reality. He said in Punjab two committees had been set up to work on strategy for coming out of lockdown and economic revival.
Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot called for an extensive stimulus package to help states battle the economic fallout of Covid19.
