West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar gets Z security

  • Sukanta Majumdar took over as West Bengal BJP president last week, replacing Dilip Ghosh

Kolkata: The Centre has approved Z category security for Sukanta Majumdar, the president of West Bengal BJP. The CISF reportedly received orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide Z security to him.

Sukanta Majumdar replaced Dilip Ghosh as the West Bengal BJP president last week.  The latter has been made the national vice-president of the party.

Majumdar was booked in a case by Kolkata police, hours after BJP leaders held a protest outside Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s house in Kalighat on Friday with a dead body.

Besides Majumdar, BJP’s Bhabanipur by-elections candidate Priyanka Tibrewal, too, was booked in the case.

BJP had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, demanding that Kolkata DCP (South) Akash Magharia be suspended for assaulting Tibrewal and Majumdar.

According to a senior minister in the Bengal government, the protest was held in the high security zone around the CM’s residence. He called it police action and said Trinamool Congress had nothing to do with it.
