Virat Kohli breaks silence, dismisses buzz of rift with Rohit Sharma

New Delhi: Cricketer Virat Kohli has broken his silence over the developments in the last few days, including his removal as ODI captain and speculations of a rift between him and Rohit Sharma.

The BCCL had announced last week that Rohit Sharma would be the captain of Team India for ODIs and T20s.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Virat Kohli said he had been contacted 1.5 hours before the selection meeting for Indian squad to South Africa. That was when he was told about the decision.

The BCCI had taken his decision to step down from T20I captaincy well, Kohli said. At that time, he had told them that he would like to lead in ODIs and Tests. “I had also said that if the office bearers and selectors don’t think I should lead in other formats then that is fine,” he said.

“Obviously we have not won ICC tournaments. I can understand the reasons,” he said, adding that BCCI’s decision was taken from a logical point of view which was “totally understandable”.

He clarified that he was available for selection. “As far as I am concerned, I am always available for selection. I am available for ODIs and I was always keen to play,” he said on his availability for the ODI series against South Africa.

Virat Kohli also clarified that there was no rift between him and Rohit Sharma, as speculated by many.
