Cricketer Virat Kohli and his actor wife Anushka Sharma have successfully collected Rs 11.39 crore in a fundraiser started by them for supporting India’s battle against COVID-19. While they had earlier set a target of Rs 7 crore, they revised the same to Rs 11 crore after MPL Sports Foundation donated Rs 5 crore for the cause.
The couple was raising the funds through the crowdfunding platform Ketto. Notably, the campaign started on May 7 was supposed to run for seven days on Ketto and the proceeds will be directed to ACT Grants, the implementation partner which will work towards providing oxygen, medical manpower, vaccination awareness and telemedicine facilities all through the pandemic.

Anushka Sharma thanked fans for their donations. “Truly amazed and humbled by the spirit of solidarity that you all have shown. We are proud to announce that we have raised more than our initial target and it will go a long way to save lives. Thank you for your overwhelming support in helping the people of India. This wouldn’t be possible without you. Jai Hind,” she said.

Virat-Anushka donated Rs 2 cr
While starting the fundraiser, the couple donated Rs 2 crore for the cause. Virat Kohli said, “We are going through an unprecedented time in the history of our country and our nation needs all of us to unite and save as many people as possible. Anushka and I have been shocked to see the human suffering since last year.”
He added that he and his wife had tried to help as many people as possible in their fight against the virus. “We have been working towards helping as many people as possible all through the pandemic and now, India wants our support more than ever,” he said in a statement that was also shared on his social media handle.

After the MPL Sports Foundation donated Rs 5 crore for the cause, Virat tweeted, “Thank you MPL Sports Foundation for your generous contribution of 5 crore in our fight against COVID-19. With your help, we have now increased our target to 11 crore. Anushka & I are deeply grateful for your unconditional support.”
