A head constable has been suspended by DCP Vijay Patel for threatening a woman who called the police to stop garba at Pink City Apartment in Ahmedabad’s Ranip area.
Notably, the society had already been designated as a micro containment zone and the residents were flouting all safety guidelines issued by the government.
The woman’s father, a senior citizen, had contacted the police control room to stop the garba celebrations. A police team reached the spot and stopped the celebrations. The complaint by the senior citizen miffed the residents of the apartment, as well as the head constable Sureshsinh Parmar, who is also a resident of the society.
Thereafter, Parmar allegedly threatened the woman for complaining to the police against Navratri celebrations in the society. He said: “Your father has stopped the garba, I will also call the police control room and complain that he had consumed alcohol.”
Later, on the next day, the constable had again allegedly threatened the woman along with other members of the society.
Following the constant threats, the woman approached the Ranip police station and lodged a complaint. After an initial probe, the police administration suspended the constable on Friday night.
As per the case details, Hetal Dave registered a complaint against the head constable Sureshsinh Parmar and a resident of the society Nitin Panchal for using foul words against her and for threatening her. Notably, Parmar was deployed at the Jawahar outpost of Sabarmati police station.
As per the complaint, on October 19 evening, after performing the traditional aarti, the residents of the society started playing garba, caring the least about safety protocols issued by the government. Hetal’s father had complained against the same to the police control room after which a police team reached the spot and stopped the revelry.
This miffed the society members and Parmar, who started threatening the daughter of the complainant.
