Anand: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu attended the 40th inauguration of the National Development Board premises at Anand on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Vice President said that after independence in 1947, one of Mahatma Gandhi’s “suggestion” was to “disband the Congress as a platform”. Further, he said that the Congress was initially a movement of people of different ideologies.

Venkaiah Naidu said that people had joined the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Balgangadhar Tilak to gain independence. People came along and struggled for independence. When independence was achieved, that struggle was completed and no discussion was needed. Mahatma Gandhi had another idea to return to the countryside, but unfortunately we have forgotten that idea. We have forgotten the village itself.

They said the people welcomed the Supreme Court decision on Ayodhya. With that, people are unhappy with the meaningful settlement of the Ayodhya dispute as we have put a stop to a lot of things. Today, on the death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Vice President also visited the ancestral residence of Sardar Patel.
