Millions of users using social media apps may have to verify themselves.The government can introduce new bill for this in the current session of Parliament, if passed users must first verify to use apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, TickTalk.
The government has brought the bill because the spread of fake advertisements (news) can be curbed.For this, these companies will have to create a mechanism. Therefore this verification must be shown publicly by companies, as done in Twitter.
According to a Reuters report, users have to create their own KYC. You can provide government documents like PAN card, Aadhaar card, Water ID card and passport. This will help the government to remove the fake running accounts and get information on its social media.
Fake News has killed 30 people
According to IndiaSpend, from 2017 to 2018, 30 people have died due fake news. Therefore WhatsApp has decresed the maximum limit of forwarding messages to stop the propagation of fake news.The Facebook and other companies had opposed it, as people do not have any documents to provide verification.
Cabinet had passed a private data protection bill
companies can now face up to three years in jail and Rs 15 crore fine, on private data theft and may have to pay a fine of 4% of the global turnover business. After the approval of the Cabinet, Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019, officials said the bill contained several provisions prohibiting the theft of private data and its use.
Now the government will introduce a bill in the ongoing winter session of Parliament. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the bill would be discussed in Parliament. The bill has been presented to the Cabinet in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and to the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology.
According to this bill, no private and government organization can use a person’s data without their permission. This can be applied for Medical emergencies and treatment can be done for state and central benefit programs. Any person will have significant rights with respect to their data. Concerned individuals can demand improvements to their data and access to their own data that exists with the organization. However, the government can opt for verification without the need for approval.
