  • Including AYUSH minister Dharam Singh Saini, 9 UP BJP MLAs have quit Uttar Pradesh BJP in 3 days

Lucknow: The trail of exits from Uttar Pradesh BJP is getting longer. Hours after Mukesh Verma announced his departure from BJP, four-time MLA and Uttar Pradesh AYUSH minister Dharam Singh Saini said he was leaving BJP. He is the ninth MLA so far to quit Uttar Pradesh unit of BJP in three days.

After giving his resignation, Dharam Singh Saini met Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav. The latter posted a tweet welcoming him into the SP fold.

Saini had joined BJP in 2016 with Swami Prasad Maurya.

He is the third minister after labour minister Maurya and environment minister Dara Singh Chauhan to leave Uttar Pradesh BJP.

Maurya resigned on Tuesday, saying that more MLAs would follow in his footsteps. That day, four more MLAs – Vinay Shakya, Roshan Lal Verma, Brijesh Prajapati and Bhagwati Sagar – resigned from the party. On Wednesday, minister Dara Singh Chauhan and MLA Avtar Singh Bhadana left the party.

Maurya has not yet said which party he will join; however, he said everything would be revealed on Friday (January 14).

The exit of the OBC leaders could prove to be a major setback for BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.
