New Delhi: The approval by the World Health Organization (WHO) for India’s indigenous Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin for emergency use has ended the uncertainty among those who had got both doses of the vaccine but were unable to travel in absence of the approval.

Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin got the WHO approval on Wednesday.

Following this, the United States (US) announced that it would allow travellers who had taken both the doses of the vaccine to enter the country from November 8.

Earlier, a petition in the Supreme Court had sought permission for those fully vaccinated with Covaxin to voluntarily take the WHO-approved Covishield. It highlighted the anxiety of such persons unable to travel abroad because of lack of WHO approval to Covaxin.

At that time, the SC had observed that Bharat Biotech had made a representation to the WHO and decided to wait for the latter’s response. It had kept the hearing for after Diwali.
