Russia’s relations with the US has continued to deteriorate after on account of war between Russia and Ukraine. Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year. Meanwhile, US State Department has advised all American citizens residing in or traveling in Russia to leave immediately. The advisory has been issued in the wake of the arrest of an American correspondent for a news paper.

The US State Department has asked all American citizens in Russia to leave the country for safety. At the same time, it has advised people, preparing to visit Russia, to cancel their proposed trip.
Recently, one American journalist, Evan Gershkovich (31 year) has been arrested in Russia on charges of spying. According to the sources this is such first action against any international journalist since Russia’s invasion on Ukraine in February, 2022. After cold war no charge has been made against nay American News outlet. Hence, US is concerned now and it has also given a stern warning to Russia for such action.
Following Gershkovich’s arrest, the White House said the State Department was in direct contact with the Russian government over his detention and urged US citizens residing or travelling in Russia to depart immediately. “We condemn the detention of Mr. Gershkovich in the strongest terms,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. “We also condemn the Russian government’s continued targeting and repression of journalists and freedom of the press.”
