US’ Mike Pompeo says country looking at banning Chinese apps, including TikTok

Pompeo’s remarks also come amid rising tension between the US and China. The former has accused the latter of spreading the COVID-19 by its poor handling of the disease.The two countries are also at loggerheads over China’s actions in Hong Kong and a over several other issues concerning trade.

The US has been raising national security concerns over TikTok’s handling of user data, particularly Chinese laws that require domestic companies to support and cooperate with intelligence work controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.

The app has repeatedly tried to show its independence from its country of origin where it is not available. TikTok is among the 58 Chinese Apps that have been banned in India after a face-off between the two countries that led to 20 soldiers being killed.
