H-1B visa holders and Green Card applicants were given a grace period of 60 days for submission of various documents, the US government said on Friday. This will bring a sigh of relief to those H-1B visa holders who were served notice for submission of various documents. The relief in grace period comes in wake of the Covid19 outbreak in the US.
The grace period will apply to visa holders who have been asked to respond to requests for evidence, continuation requests, notices of intent to deny or revoke among others.
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said that it was taking several measures to minimise the immigration consequence on those who sought benefits of immigration during the pandemic. Indians account for nearly two-third of the H-1B visa holders in the US. The US is one of the worst affected countries due to the Covid19 pandemic. Over 65000 people have died due to the disease in the US alone.
Meanwhile, the Indian embassy in the US and other countries have started contacting Indians who would like to return home once the international travel restrictions are lifted. Many Indian residents stuck abroad after the lockdown came into effect in India have been requesting the government for their repatriation.
