The Gujarat government has under the Unlock 2.0 allowed shops to remain open upto 8 pm in the evening from July 1 onwards. The state has also given an additional one hour of extension for hotels and restaurants. As a result now they can remain open up to 9 pm in the evening. The state in a release said that as per the MHA guidelines, a curfew will be imposed in the state from 10 pm to 5 am in the morning.
It should be noted that earlier the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Gujarat had made a representation to the state government asking that they be allowed to function till 11 pm once the Unlock 1.0 comes to an end. They had said that despite being allowed to operate most hotels and restaurants had chosen not to be operational because it was still a loss making proposition for them. They had argued that since most of their business happens in the evening, the 7 pm deadline prevented themselves from getting any substantial number of customers.
The government it seems has not relented on the 11 pm deadline for restaurants but has increased it up to 9 pm. It should be noted that Gujarat has been recording a surge in COVID-19 cases with the state seeing over 600 cases in the last three days.
