New Delhi: The emergency approval to Covaxin by the World Health Organization (WHO) has opened more doors for those who have received the vaccine. After the United States, now the United Kingdom (UK) too has given the nod to Bharat Biotech’s indigenously developed Covid-19 vaccine. Thus, those who have received both the shots of Covaxin will now be allowed to enter the UK from 4 am on November 22.

UK had earlier lifted travel restrictions for those who had received Covishield. However, this did not cover travellers from India as its vaccination certificate CoWIN was not accepted in the UK.

India took up the matter with the UK government and eventually Covishield-vaccinated travellers were allowed in the UK. Meanwhile, Covaxin continued to be out of the list due to lack of WHO approval.

Soon after WHO gave its nod for emergency use of the vaccine last month, the US announced that it would fully vaccinated travellers who had received Covaxin to enter the country.

UK’s approval for the Bharat Biotech jab comes close on the heels of Switzerland giving its nod. Other countries, too, may follow suit now.
