Uddhav Thackeray Chosen Leader of Maha Vikas Aghadi, to be Chief Minister

Devendra Fadnavis resigned as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Tuesday shortly after Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar tendered his resignation from the post. The resignations came a day before the Fadnavis government was ordered, by the Supreme Court, to prove its majority in the state Assembly.

Maha Vikas Aghadi of Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP has been formally constituted after the three parties reached an agreement together. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leaders, who are also present at the meeting, have pledged their support to the Aghadi. Shiv Sena’s Anil Desai has confirmed that the alliance will have a Coordination Committee.

At Hotel Trident in Mumbai, the NCP, Shiv Sena and Congress jointly met to elect Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray as their leader. “Uddhav Thackeray will lead the alliance as the Chief Minister,” NCP’s Jayant Patil said. Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde moved resolution to form ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’The resolution has been passed by all MLAs.

“Three representatives of ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ will meet the Governor today. Swearing-in ceremony to be held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on 1 December,” Sharad Pawar announces at the joint meeting at Hotel Trident.
