New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to investigate the daylight murder of a tailor in Udaipur in Rajasthan on Tuesday.
In a tweet, the HMO India said, “MHA has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over the investigation of the brutal murder of Shri Kanhaiya Lal Teli committed at Udaipur, Rajasthan yesterday.”
It added, “The involvement of any organisation and international links will be thoroughly investigated.”
Kanhaiya Lal, the tailor, was beheaded by a man posing as his customer at his shop. The latter’s accomplice videographed the crime.
Later, they uploaded the video on social media to boast about their act and also threatened to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The duo was identified as Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad. Both were arrested within hours of the crime.
As news of the beheading spread, section 144 was announced in Udaipur and internet was suspended for 24 hours.
Kanhaiya Lal was reportedly attacked for sharing a social media post supporting former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma who had made controversial comments about Prophet Mohammad.
