At a time when the coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc on Ahmedabad and the entire Gujarat, the city authorities have decided to close two more bridges for traffic and pedestrian movement that connects east and west Ahmedabad. The two bridges that will remain closed for citizens include Gandhi Bridge and Dadhichi Bridge.
Notably, the authorities had earlier closed down Nehru Bridge to contain the spread of coronavirus in Ahmedabad.
According to Ahmedabad city traffic police, the decision to close down these bridges has been taken as part of an experiment to contain the spread of the virus. In case of any emergency, people will be allowed to use the bridge.
Notably, with the three bridges closed for traffic and pedestrian movement, Subhash Bridge, Ellis Bridge, Jamalpur Bridge, and Ambedkar Bridge remains an option for people to travel from east to west Ahmedabad and vice-versa.
Meanwhile, Gujarat has reported 230 fresh cases of coronavirus in the past 24-hours ending at 5 pm on Sunday. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the state’s coronavirus case tally to 3,301. Out of the 230 new cases, 178 cases are of Ahmedabad alone.
With the addition of the 178 fresh cases till 5 pm on Sunday, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad has increased to 2,181—the highest in Gujarat. The city has also reported the maximum number of deaths in the state. After three deaths were reported on Saturday, 18 deaths were again reported on Sunday that pushed the death toll due to the deadly virus to 104 in Ahmedabad.
