2 held for throwing eggs at BJP’s Dhari candidate JV Kakadia’s meet in Surat


Two people have been arrested in connection with an incident in which eggs were thrown at a meeting of BJP’s Dhari candidate JV Kakadia.

The Surat crime Branch nabbed two people in the incident which happened at the Vijay Vishwas Sammelan of the party at the Anand Farm at Yogi Chowk area in Surat.

Gujarat BJP president CR Patil had left the event minutes before the incident.

Though a formal complaint was not made initially, cops had investigated the matter. They accessed the CCTV cameras in the area.

Later Bhavesh Kakadia had registered a complaint with the Kapodra Police station. The Crime Branch which joined the investigation and found images of two youth on a bike from CCTV at Vasupujya Apartment.

The youth was on a bike and cops detained them after tracing them with the help of their bike number. Cops later arrested Gaurang Kakadia, a resident of Yogi Chowk and Piyush Virani a resident of Ramnagar in Hirabaug.

What was the incident at JV Kakadia’s meet?

Some protestors tried to hurl eggs in the political meet of JV Kakadia who is contesting from Dhari seat. Kakadia was in Surat as part of the bypolls campaign.

Surat has a large population that originally belongs to Saurashtra and they considerably influence the outcome of polls in Saurashtra region of which Dhari is a part.

As a result, BJP’s Dhari candidate JV Kakadia was in Surat for political campaigning for the bypolls. The area where the incident was reported is dominated by the Patidar community and saw great support for the PAAS agitation. Several such incidents were reported at the height of the PAAS agitation.

The BJP had after the incident accused the Congress of using such tactics.
