The heavy rains in Rajkot on Monday morning resulted in the death of two commuters in the district. A wall of an overbridge at Aji Dam crossroads collapsed in the rain. Two youths who were passing by on their vehicles died after the wall fell on them. Locals rushed to the spot but a JCB had to be called to remove the debris. The two youths, however, could not be saved and died on the spot . A CCTV video of the footage also showed a truck having a narrow escape in the incident. The incident has also raised concerns about the quality of the overbridge from where many people commute on a daily basis. In another incident, A wall of a house collapsed in Rajkot due to the heavy rains on Monday although no casualty was reported.
Meanwhile, 103 talukas in the state recorded rains in the last 24 hours. The highest was recorded at Jamjodhpur in Jamnagar that received 65 mm of rainfall followed by Khambha in Amreli that also received the same amount of rainfall. Savarkundla in Amreli recorded the second highest rainfall at 55mm.
In Ahmedabad district, Dhandhuka recorded a mere 9 mm of rainfall while Bavla and Dholka recorded 5 mm of rainfall. Daskroi also recorded 3 mm of rainfall. The city recorded rains in some parts but overall Ahmedabad city recorded just 1 mm of rainfall.
