Two policemen, who were seen beating a man in a video that went viral on social media, have been suspended. The cops belong to Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place in Pipla Naryanwar village a few days ago, media reports said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shashank Garg was quoted as saying that the cops beat up the man because he was drunk and creating chaos. Police officials said the two constables have been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against them. In the video, a cop is seen hitting a man with a baton. When the man falls down, the cops continue to beat and kick him. Once he becomes motionless he is carried to the police vehicle.
Several instances of police brutality were reported from India since the Lockdown 4.0 came into force. A video of cops hitting a doctor who complained of lack of PPE kits went viral sometime ago. There were reports of migrants being thrashed for demanding that they be sent home.
