A Twitter war has erupted between the Gujarat handle of Congress and BJP. The Congress had accused the BJP of allowing the spread of Covid19 through the Namaste Trump event. The BJP returned the favour by pointing to the rising number of cases in Maharashtra and Punjab, both Congress-ruled states, but the discussion soon turned to Gujarat’s own rising number of cases.
On Saturday, a tweet from the Opposition party’s handle had stated that the number of cases in Gujarat had risen by 47% in a week while the surge was 88% in Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara and that the Namaste Trump event was to be blamed for it.
BJP replied by showing that the one week percentage rise in cases in Punjab and Maharashtra wsa 60%. The argument continued and the conversation moved to the number of testing happening in Gujarat.
But citizens took to task both the parties as one Twitter handle rightly pointed out that there was no need for both the parties to take credit for anything at a time when most citizens were forced to shut shop and stay at home. The twitter handle said that it was high time the parties stopped playing politics over such a serious issue.
