Speeding truck collides with car in Anand, leaves 9 dead; PM announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia relief

Anand: Nine people hailing from Bhavnagar, all relatives, were killed on the spot when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck on Wednesday morning, according to police. The mishap took place near Indranaj village in Anand district of Gujarat.

According to available details, the Eeco car was heading from Surat to Bhavnagar. It was on the state highway connecting Tarapur in Anand to Vataman in Ahmedabad, when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit it. The loaded truck was headed from Morbi to South Gujarat. Such was the impact of the collision that the car was badly damaged and all 9 passengers, including a child, died on the spot, according to the police. They have registered a case and have initiated further investigation. The driver had absconded from the spot.

Collector RG Gohil and Anand SP Ajit Rajian, too, reached the spot on getting the news.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem. They are believed to be residents of Vartej in Bhavnagar district.

Expressing grief at the mishap, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani directed Anand district Collector to offer all possible help in the case. He also assured of state assistance to the family of those who lost their lives in the accident. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, too, offered condolences to the family on Twitter.

PM Modi announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of those who died.
