Minister Ganpat Vasava on Tuesday said that the state will allow travel of migrants from Surat to other districts in Saurashtra and North Gujarat. The decision comes following a meeting at the Surat district collector office. Those intending to travel will have to file an application online and initial permission to ferry passengers has been given only to luxury buses.
The online application will be accepted from Wednesday onwards and interdistrict travel will be allowed from Thursday onwards. All passengers will be screened before being allowed to board the bus. Those that show symptoms like cold, flu etc will not be allowed to board the buses.
Once the application is received the Surat collector will send the list of prospective travellers to the respective district for which the application is made. The collector of the destination district will give a nod about how many passengers and buses can be sent daily. Each bus will be allowed to carry only 30 passengers against a capacity of 70 to ensure social distancing. It is believed that later on cars will also be allowed passage with a limited number of people on board. On Monday during the routine update on the Covid19 status in Gujarat, secretary CMO Ashwani Kumar had said that the government was mulling to allow travel between Surat and Saurashtra regions.
