The Rajkot collector has closed the highways that connect the district to Ahmedabad. The decision has been taken after some travellers who had recently travelled to Rajkot from Ahmedabad tested positive for the disease.
It should be noted that Ahmedabad has the highest number of corona cases in the state with the district recording over 4,000 such incidents. The death rate has also been high and Ahmedabad is in the red zone while Rajkot is not although it is treated with the same limitations as any other red zones, as per a recent announcement by the state.
The new order by the collector states that people will not be allowed to move between the two districts. The exception, however, has been made for ambulance services and medical emergencies. Only the entry in Rajkot has been banned, however, migrants who are travelling from Surat and other places via Rajkot will still be allowed to pass through the city.
Ahmedabad has been under a severe lockdown with the administration recently announcing a ban on vegetable and fruit vendors and shops as well. This was done in an attempt to prevent the spread of the disease by super spreaders, most of whom happened to be vegetable vendors and grocery shop employees.
