Tokyo: India’s first medal at the Tokyto Paralympics has been confirmed with paddler Bhavina Patel entering the finals of women’s singles Class 4 event.

She defeated China’s Zhang Miao, who is ranked world number 3 and also 2016 Rio silver medallist, to march ahead to the finals.

With this, Bhavina (34), who is from Ahmedabad, became the first Indian table tennis player to enter the finals of Paralympics.

The victory is sweeter as this is for the first time that she defeated Zhang Miao.

Earlier, she served a shocking defeat to world number 2 Borislav Rankovic

After the semi-final match on Saturday morning, Bhavina Patel said she was mentally ready for the finals. Her father Hasmukh Patel has expressed confidence in her ability to win gold.
