The Congress has moved its flock to different resorts across the state to safeguard them before the Rajya Sabha elections in the state. In March, five Congress MLAs had resigned from the party after the names for Rajya Sabha seats were declared while three others had resigned recently.
With this the party has lost 8 of its MLAs so far since the announcement of the Rajya Sabha polls. To ensure that no more defections happen before the polls, the party has moved its Central and South Gujarat MLAs to a resort in Anand while those from North Gujarat have been taken to one near the Gujarat-Rajasthan border. MLAs from Saurashtra and Kutch are staying in a resort in Rajkot.
Earlier after the announcement of resignation by five MLAs in March, the party had taken the rest of its MLAs to Rajasthan as a safety precaution but they had to return due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown.
The eight MLAs who resigned from Congress are Pravin Maru from Gadhada, Pradyumansinh Jadeja from Abdasa, Soma Koli Patel from Limbdi, J V Kakadia from Dhari and Mangal Gavit from Dang, Akshay Patel from Karjan, Jitu Chaudhary from Kaprada and Brijesh Merja from Morbi.
