Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani on Friday shared a slew of announcements to help give a boost to the economy and business in the state. The Covid19 pandemic and the resultant lockdown has brought the economic activity in the state to a grinding halt. Rupani on Friday announced exemption from provisions of labour laws for new projects in the state.
The provision is, however, subject to the condition that the new units will be functional in the state for over 1,200 days. The chief minister also clarified that the rules relating to minimum wages, safety and compensation in case of accidents among others will continue to be effective even for new units.
The relaxation in labour laws will not be extended to existing units in the state. The state will bring out an ordinance for the same soon and officials said that they are busy working on a policy to attract companies that may want to quit China and invest elsewhere.
The state is hoping that the various facilities available for industries at hubs such as Sanand, Dahej, SEZs and GIDCs in the state will give it an edge over others.
