It seems there is some difference of opinion in the BJP about poaching leaders and workers from the Opposition party.
While chief minister Vijay Rupani warned the Congress that it will see more of its MLAs breaking away from the party, BJP state president CN Patil had earlier said that the BJP does not need leaders from the Opposition and they will not be accepted any more.
Interestingly, it seems Rupani’s predictions may not be off the mark as recently Congress leader Lalji Mer joined the BJP with his supporters and Patil, despite his claims, was among those who welcomed him in the party fold.
Lalji Mer’s decision to join the BJP particularly ahead of the Limdi elections is a big setback for the Congress. Among the leaders who had welcomed Mer into the party were Dr Mahendra Manjpura, Shankarbhai Vegda, Kunvarji Bavadia and RC Faldu among others.
Bypolls in Gujarat and BJP
CR Patil will also be addressing party workers and holding meetings with them in Limdi and Morbi today. Limdi and Morbi are two of the eight seats that will see bypolls on November 3. The results will be declared on November 10.
The eight vacant assembly constituencies are Abdasa, Limdi, Karjan, Dangs, Kaprada, Morbi, Gadhda and Dhari which will go to polls on November 3.
Initially, four MLAs of the Congress resigned in the run-up to the Rajya Sabha polls but by the time the polls were held, four more had resigned.
This had helped three candidates of the BJP win the Rajya Sabha polls while only one of the Congress sailed through.
