At a time when the state authorities were busy patting their own back and claiming that no new positive cases of coronavirus were reported on Friday, three fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported from Rajkot. With the three fresh cases coming to the fore, the state’s total tally reached 47, including three deaths.

Sources said the three fresh cases are all residents of Rajkot and are in their 30s. They had no international travel history. However, the three cases, which include a woman, had come in contact with a coronavirus positive person with a travel history of Dubai.

As far as deaths due to coronavirus in the state are concerned, a 70-year-old man died at a government hospital at Bhavnagar on Thursday. Apart from this, an 85-year-old woman had died in Ahmedabad, and a 67-year-old woman succumbed to the virus in Surat.

So far, Ahmedabad has reported 16 cases, followed by Vadodara with eight cases. Gandhinagar, Surat, and Rajkot have reported seven cases each. Kutch and Bhavnagar have reported one case each.

Meanwhile, the authorities are busy in rendering services to the poor and migrant workers. However, online grocery stores and supermarkets are finding it difficult to cater to the increased demand for home delivery, with many of these platforms cancelling orders due to unprecedented demand.
