A thief ended up killing himself in a strange accident in Vadodara on Monday.
Police said the thief accidentally killed himself by slashing his neck with the electric cutter he was using to cut through the strong room of the private bank.
The incident is believed to have happened on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, they said.
What police said
Media quoted police officials as saying that the thief might have been accidentally hit by the electric cutter which he was using to cut the strong room of the Ujjivan Small Finance Bank.
The incident happened at the branch located at Sangam Crossroads in Vadodara.
Police said the thief cut through the inner plate of the strong room before the accident happened.
Police suspect the cutter might have stopped after the wire attached to it came to lose. They believe he went to fix it and then tried to crawl through the narrow passage of the inner plate with the cutter in his hand.
It might have hit him in the neck accidentally and slit his throat. The thief was killed on the spot.
The thief was identified as Nitin Vora. He was found in a pool of blood by the bank manager inside the strong room around 1 am on Sunday.
The manager went to the banks after the vigilance staff alerted him about the activity in the bank on the CCTV. They also informed the police who reached the spot half an hour after the manager.
A case has been registered against the thief. His body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem.
