Rs30.70 lakh has been stolen from the house of Bharat Makwana, son of former Congress MP Yogendra Makwana. The house is located on Thaltej-Hebatpura road. Cash and jewellery both were stolen in the theft incident.
Bharat Makwana had left the country some days ago for the US. A member of the house staff Devilal is missing for the last 5 days. A complaint has been registered by the treasury manager of Ganesh Housing Rishit on Tuesday with the Sola Police station.
Bharat Makwana is the brother of Anuradha Mal and brother-in-law of Vinod Mal. He is the son-in-law of the family that is behind Ganesh Housing.
Bharat Makwana lives in a bungalow close to Shangrila Bungalow near Thaltej-Hebatpura. His wife Rita, son Krishna and daughter Aditi lives with him at the house. On August 23, the four had left for the USA.
How the theft was discovered
The complainant Rashit was informed of the theft by driver Mehboob on Tuesday. On checking, Rashit found that the window grill of the master bedroom and children’s room had been removed.
The window glass had been broken. The cupboard in the master bedroom was also broken and the safe deposit box was smashed. Diamond jewellery, watches and Rs70,000 in cash in all amounting to Rs30.70 lakh had been stolen.
Rashit told police that Mehboob was a driver at the bungalow and they had two guards Pradeep and Bipin. Devilal and Seeman took care of housekeeping while one Ashaben worked as a cook.
Devilal is missing for the last 5 days and his phone is also not reachable. Seema told police that on September 5, she had cleaned the house and locked the rooms.
On Tuesday when she went to clean again she found the house in a mess and so informed the driver who informed the family.
