The sulfuric acid leak was reported from a factory in Ambernath MIDC in Thane
Thane: Vapours from a suspected chemical leak at a factory in Thane district of Maharashtra left several people in the vicinity complaining of uneasiness. At least 34 people had to be hospitalized after they reportedly inhaled the toxic fumes.
The victims were rushed to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar with complaints of nausea, breathlessness and other issues.
According to Santosh Kadam, chief of the regional disaster management cell of the municipal corporation, the sulphuric acid gas leak was reported at around 10 am on Tuesday at a factory in Ambernath MIDC.
Officials of the Maharashtra Police Control Board (MPCB) and local police reached the spot. The leak was said to have been plugged by the MPCB team.
