Testing domes return as Ahmedabad braces for possible surge in COVID cases


The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has resurrected the COVID testing domes in the city as it braces for a surge in COVID cases. Gujarat and India are also seeing a surge in COVID cases.

In the last 24 hours, the state has recorded 283 new cases of which 68 were in Ahmedabad. A death was also recorded in Panchmahals during the same period.

The domes that were dismantled after a drop in cases have made an appearance in Jodhpur, Paldi, Narnapura, and Prahladnagar areas of the city. The state has so far recorded over 2.67 lakh cases.

Of the total 68 cases recorded in Ahmedabad, 66 are within AMC limits while two were in rural areas. This is the highest recorded for the city in the last 21 days. Vadodara has reported 65, Surat 47, and Rajkot 22 cases.

The city has so far recorded 62,163 cases while Surat has 53,307, Vadodara 29,346, and Rajkot 23,015 cases.

Eight districts- Banaskantha, Bhavnagar, Chhota Udepur, Dangs, Navsari, Patan, Porbandar, and Surednragar did not report a single COVID case in the last 24 hours.

Gujarat has recorded 2,307 fatalities due to the disease of which 976 were in Ahmedabad, 240 in Surat and Vadodara each.

Sof ar 2,67,104 patients have recovered from the disease in the state.
