Ahmedabad: A metropolitan court in Ahmedabad in Gujarat sent social activist Teesta Setalvad and former IPS officer RB Sreekumar to 14-day judicial custody after the police did not seek their further custody.

Recently, the Supreme Court, while giving a clean chit to then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots, was critical of their role in pursuing related cases.

A day later, an FIR was registered against Teesta Setalvad, RB Sreekumar and Sanjeev Bhatt by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch in which they were charged with forgery and influencing witnesses.

Both Setalvad and Sreekumar were sent to police custody till July 2.
