From streets to own office: Sweeper clears Rajasthan Administrative Services exams

Jodhpur: Asha Kandara’s is a story of pure grit and determination and of a journey fraught with uncertainties but with a definite goal. After years of sweeping the roads to make a living, this young single mother of two is all set to have her own office when she gets posting as a deputy collector.

Having separated from her husband eight years ago, Kandara decided to raise both her children on her own. She completed her graduation alongside.

With her eyes set on a higher aim, Kandara appeared for the Rajasthan Civil Service exams about two years ago. Simultaneously, she took up the job of a sweeper to raise her children.

The exam results got delayed. Meanwhile, Kandara continued with her work. Recently, she got a permanent job as sanitary worker.

However, her joy knew no bounds when she got the news of her clearing the exam.

She secured the 728th rank in the RAS sexams. The results were announced on Tuesday night.

According to Kandara, she got the motivation to prepare for RAS by watching officers in their chambers.
