SVP Hospital to resume medical services for non-COVID patients from Dec 22

Following a considerable decline in the number of active cases of COVID-19 availing treatment at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Hospital, the hospital administration has decided to resume medical services that used to be provided at the hospital before the pandemic began.

Notably, the hospital was designated for COVID-19 treatment in March and since then services rendered by various departments were stopped as the hospital focused on the treatment of COVID-19 patients. So far, the hospital has treated over 12,000 COVID-19 patients.

Various departments  of SVP to resume operations

To begin with, the hospital has decided to resume services offered by departments such as general medicine, general surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedic, paediatrics, dermatology and psychiatry among others.

These apart, superspecialty departments such as cardio thoracic, cardiology, neuro medicine, neuro surgery, gastro medicine, gastro surgery, rheumatology, plastic surgery, endocrinology and paediatric surgery will also remain functional. Both outdoor and indoor services will be provided by these departments from December 22 onwards.

Safety precautions taken

The hospital, in a statement, said it has taken several measures to ensure people coming to the hospital for treatment in other departments do not get infected with COVID-19. It said it has come up with a separate process flow.

The hospital administration has also clarified that considering the burden of patients, available infrastructure, staff availability and occupancy of ICU’s, emergency services will not resume in the hospital.
