Wisconsin: A red SUV drove through a Christmas parade in Waukesha in Wisconsin in the US on Sunday. According to reports, ‘some fatalities’ were reported and over 20 people were injured in the accident.
The incident took place just after 4.30 pm, (22.30 GMT) when people were watching the annual parade in Waukesha town of Wisconsin.
“The Waukesha Christmas parade was taking place when a red SUV broke through the barricades, westbound, headed down Main Street,” Police Chief Dan Thompson was quoted as saying.
The video of the scene showed the car driving through the parade, leaving the crowd in a chaos.
According to reports, 11 adults and 12 children were taken to hospitals.
Thompson added that over 20 persons, including children, were hit and a few died in the incident. He added that a ‘person of interest’ had been detained and the SUV had been recovered.
The number of casualties had not been confirmed so far.
A White House official said that President Joe Biden had been briefed about the incident and that the WH was closely monitoring the situation. “We have reachd out to state and local officials to offer any support or assistance as needed,” the official said.
