Surat cops nab 6 with Rs2 cr MD drugs, ganja


Surat: The Surat Crime Branch has nabbed three youths with Rs1.4 crore worth of Mephedrone or MD drugs in three separate incidents. It also nabbed three people with Rs56 lakh worth of Ganja, taking the total drug seizure to Rs2 crore.

At a press conference held to give details of the seizure, Surat Police Commissioner Ajay Tomar said ‘drugs are sold in every corner of Surat’.

MD Drugs seizure

The cops nabbed one Salman alias Hanif Zaveri, a resident of New Rander Road near a tea stall in Kuvad and recovered 1,011.82 gram of Mephedrone worth Rs1.1 crore from him. Another youth Aadil who was with Salman is absconding.

The second arrest was of Vinay Patel, a resident of Varachha, who was nabbed from the same area close to Bhavani circle with 17.5gm of MD drugs worth Rs1.75 lakh. Rohan, a resident of Mumbai, is wanted in this connection.

Sanket Allaliya a resident of Utran was arrested after cops raided a shop in Sayona Shopping Centre in Sarthana and recovered 304.98 gm MD drugs worth Rs30.49 lakh. One Salman Zaveri is wanted in this connection.

Ganja Seizure

In a separate case, the Crime Branch nabbed a youth involved in the supply of ganja. The cops stopped a truck that was passing through the Punagam Saroli Road and detained Mithun and Basant Savai and Tunkna Gowda.

The three had created a special compartment in the truck and hidden the ganja consignment in the vehicle that was coming from Odisha. Cops recovered 564 kg of ganja worth Rs56 lakh.

Drugs available everywhere in Surat: Top cop

Police Commissioner Ajay Tomar said that Salman and Sanket have been in the drug business for long and know each other. Tomar said the batch of drugs seized from Salman and Sanket as well as the third person seem to be of the same batch.

An initial probe has revealed that all the three have a Mumbai connection and the police will seek the help of NCB to investigate the case.

In reply to a question, Tomar said that drugs are available and sold at every corner of Surat. The cop also appealed to people to inform them in case they know of anyone taking drugs or selling it.
