A welcome party held for a corporator who returned home after recovering from COVID-19 saw social distancing norms and caution being thrown to the wind.
Interestingly, the SMC imposes a penalty on those who violate COVID-19 norms but apparently, the corporator Amit Rajput and his supporters were not subject to the rule.
Surat has been reporting the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the state every day. Amit Rajput is a BJP corporator from Surat’s Limbayat ward no 24. He had tested positive a fortnight ago and was under treatment.
He was discharged on Tuesday and his supporters welcomed him with a party gathering. Interestingly before his discharge, Rajput had messaged his friends and supporters that his COVID-19 report was negative and he will be discharged on Tuesday.
When Amit Rajput returned to his home his supporters gathered and began a celebration. Some did not even bother to wear a mask although they were near a person who had recently recovered from COVID-19.
Interestingly Amit Rajput himself did not discourage people from taking selfies with him or appealed to his followers to maintain social distancing.
