The political landscape of Surat has changed as ten corporators suddenly left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the BJP in Surat, which was once a stronghold of Aam Aadmi Party.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a setback in Surat city of Gujarat as ten of its corporators in the local civic body joined the ruling BJP, a party functionary said on Saturday. These corporators joined the saffron party late Friday night in the presence of Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi. It is likely that other AAP corporators may join BJP, sources said.
Meanwhile, AAP corporator Dipti Pansaria alleged that AAP corporators might have joined BJP due to financial allurement.
In Surat Civic Body election, 27 candidates from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were elected as corporators to Surat Municipal Corporation. Following the development of AAP corporators joining BJP, Regional President AAP slammed BJP saying you (BJP)have purchased the corporators by paying amount. AAP corporators are being intimidated and taken away.

Aam Aadmi Party had achieved spectacular success in the Surat Municipal Corporation elections for the first time after stepping into the local body elections in Gujarat. 27 candidates of AAP succeeded in the elections. But before this development four corporators had joined BJP and now 6 more people have joined BJP.
Corporators Ashok Dhami, Nirali Patel, Dharmendra Vavlia, Swati Kyada, Kiran Khokhani, Ghanshyam Makwana,Rita Kheni, Swati Lathia,Bhavna Solanki, Vipul Mowlia, have joined BJP. Giving the reason for joining BJP, the corporators said that in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) they were not able to do development works. By joining the ruling party, they will undertake such works in their wards and they will be able to fulfill their promises.
