In a major relief for Amdavadis, the online grocery stores and supermarkets are likely to resume home deliveries from Thursday onwards. These supermarkets had discontinued the service and cancelled all the orders after their delivery personnel had to face harassment by police and local administration amid the countrywide lockdown.

A meeting was held in this regard by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) commissioner Vijay Nehra to solve the issues faced by these companies. Nehra informed that the meeting was fruitful and home delivery of essential goods would resume at a large scale from Thursday. Representatives from Big Bazar, Reliance Retail, and other supermarkets were present during the meeting.

Nehra tweeted: “Just completed a very fruitful meeting with reps of Big Bazaar, Reliance Retail & Other supermarkets. They have all agreed to start Home Delivery of essential goods on a large scale from tomorrow in Ahmedabad”.

Notably, many citizens had urged the civic authorities as well as the district administration to solve the issues faced by these companies in home delivering groceries and other essential items to customers. Many of these companies had sent a text message to their customers clarifying that the order scheduled for delivery could not be processed due to restrictions imposed by local authorities on the movement of goods in spite of clear guidelines provided by central authorities.
