In a bizarre incident that has caused a major embarrassment for the Bhopal Police, a superintendent of police was thrashed by three constables in a drunken state in front of his family. The incident took place on Sunday night near Depot Square at around 11.45 pm while the officer, BM Shakya, was on his way home in his official car, albeit in civil uniform.

Shakya, the SP in charge of the Dial 100 fleet of the Bhopal Police, registered a case against the three constables at TT Nagar police station on Monday.

What police said

According to the police, Shakya got down from his car to remove some obstacle that was lying on the road when three youths reached the spot in a Baleno car and started hurling abuses while moving ahead of the officer. The constables also hurled abuses at Shakya’s wife when she tried to intervene.

The officer told them that he was with the police department following which the argument turned into a brawl and the three accused while claiming that they too were from the police started thrashing the officer, police said. The constables reportedly fled the spot before the Dial 100 team could arrive. However, Shakya managed to note down the number of their car.

Constables suspended

Upon probe, the police found that the car belonged to Vinod Parashar, a constable with the 25th battalion. Two other constables Anil Jaat and Abhishek Chaudhary were accompanying Parashar. Upon being summoned by senior officers, the constables apologised for their actions. However, the officer was adamant on filing an FIR against the constables.

While Chaudhary is posted in the traffic department, Anil Jaat is posted with the crime branch but is under suspension for his alleged involvement in flesh trade. The police department has ordered an inquiry into the incident and the constables have been placed under suspension.
