Chandigarh: Days after resigning from Congress, former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar joined the BJP on Thursday.
He was inducted into the Saffron party in presence of BJP national president JP Nadda.
Sunil Jakhar had announced his resignation from the party via Facebook Live on Saturday.
“Three generations of my family served the Congress party over the last 50 years. Today, I have broken the 50-year-old tie with Congress over issues of nationalism, unity and brotherhood in Punjab,” he was quoted by ANI as saying after joining BJP.
Claiming that he was fighting for Punjab’s brotherhood, he added, “The work which bullets of AK-47 were not able to do, they (Congress) did it with their tongue that person from a particular community can’t be elected (as CM). They not only insulted Hindu brotherhood but also Sikh brotherhood.”
Reacting to the news, former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh tweeted, “Right man in the right party. Congratulations to @sunilkjakhar for joining @BJP4India. Honest and upright leaders like him cannot breathe in the @INCIndia anymore.”
