Schools in the state may reopen post August 15 onwards as the state education department works towards ensuring the same. As per media reports, the state is still in a dilemma as to whether to open schools or not. This is because Gujarat has been reporting a consistently high number of COVID-19 cases since the Unlock 1.0 happened.

Media reports quoted government sources as saying that the education department has held a round of consultation with the health department as well as school administrators and parents among others. Those in the know said the department was busy preparing a plan of action to ensure reopening of schools in the state.

As per the draft plan prepared by the NCERT to open schools across the country, class 11 and 12 standards are likely to be opened first. The other classes may be opened after another two or three weeks. It is also likely that each class will have just 30 to 35 students and they will have to sit at a distance of 6 feet. The draft plan also bans morning assembly in schools and ensuring that lunch breaks happen in class and students are not allowed to go out and mingle.

In Gujarat, the decision on opening will be decided on the basis of how the COVID-19 situation pan out. The department has begun online classes from June 15 onwards.
